April is National Poetry Month
Hello my dear subscribers - every time I scroll through my subscribers list I am filled with such gratitude to see all these people who are interested in reading and supporting my work! You are all a gift, and I hope you know how much I appreciate you!
April is National Poetry Month, and if you’ve been reading my work for a while you know I get pretty excited about poetry. I suspect that if you're here, you also enjoy poetry.
You can expect a celebration of various poets and poetry this month, as well as some invitations to write your own poetry.
I also wanted to let you know that I’ll only be in your inbox twice a month. I’ll be posting more often than that, but you’ll only see emails from Ordinary Magic twice - each time it will be a round up of what I’ve posted through the precious weeks with links to each new piece. You’ll always be able to see new posts by visiting Ordinary Magic, and the monthly emails will highlight all the new pieces so you won’t miss a thing.
Poetry has this uncanny ability to make the ordinary extraordinary. A simple flower can become a metaphor for fleeting beauty, a raindrop becomes a tear shed by the sky, and icicles become sparkling jewels. We get to experience and see the world through eyes of wonder when we use a poetic lense.
For me it's not just about what poetry shows us; it's also about how it makes us feel. Have you ever read a poem that made your heart skip a beat or sent shivers down your spine? Poetry can take us through the highs and lows of the human experience. From love and joy to heartache and despair, poetry lays bare the raw, messy beauty of existing here in this human world.
So, next time you're feeling stuck in a rut or lost in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, why not crack open a book of poetry? You will find inspiration, a glimmer of hope perhaps, or maybe even a piece of yourself you never knew existed.
Poetry can become a map of the human heart, guiding you back to yourself over and over again.
If you fancy exploring poetry more this month, I've got some treats for you. If you're local to me, I'm leading two poetry workshops and I invite you to join!
*hit reply or send an email to rainesillito@gmail.com to register for either workshop. Address will be provided upon registration.
For those of you in far off corners of the world, here are links to a handful of my favorite poems for you to enjoy:
And here’s some poetry fragments from yours truly. I often jot down notes through my days that I turn into longer poems. These are some of my fragmented poetic thoughts that have yet to be edited into complete pieces.
